What is CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television)?

Glossary Definition

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited set of monitors. It differs from broadcast television in that the signal is not openly transmitted and is used as a secure closed connection between a camera (or group of cameras) to a specific viewing destination (or multiple specific destinations). Two examples of CCTV would be video surveillance and video conferencing. Some people use CCTV cameras as a general term for surveillance cameras.
